Es posible que haya estado preparado para ir al final y ver si nos ajustamos a sus preferencias. Pero la verdad es que, sobre todo en el ecosistema de Pure Storage, la elecci\u00f3n no consiste en una \u00fanica respuesta \u00abcorrecta\u00bb. Se trata de seleccionar el almac\u00e9n de datos adecuado que mejor se adapte a los <strong>requisitos de su aplicaci\u00f3n<\/strong> y a las <strong>necesidades operativas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">VMware, fundado en 1998, tiene ahora 27 a\u00f1os. Son 27 a\u00f1os de evoluci\u00f3n del almacenamiento y <em>han cambiado much\u00edsimo<\/em>. Algunos de nosotros recordamos el bloqueo LUN, que nos ha obligado a mantener nuestros tama\u00f1os LUN peque\u00f1os. Afortunadamente, la introducci\u00f3n de las API de vStorage para la integraci\u00f3n de cabinas (VAAI) trajo un bloqueo sectorial y un escalamiento masivo del rendimiento. Los primeros usuarios de NFS apreciaron la flexibilidad y la facilidad de uso del aprovisionamiento de almacenes de datos masivos. Exploremos el panorama actual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hist\u00f3ricamente, cada opci\u00f3n de almacenamiento ofrec\u00eda dos ventajas principales. Veamos primero las ventajas de NFS:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Facilidad de gesti\u00f3n:<\/strong> NFS funciona como su propio sistema de archivos, que VMware utiliza. Es accesible desde m\u00faltiples plataformas, lo que provoca algunas vulnerabilidades de seguridad que se han abordado con el tiempo (considere la implementaci\u00f3n de la autenticaci\u00f3n de Kerberos). Sin embargo, la sencillez de navegar directamente a los archivos de VM usando cualquier m\u00e1quina con las credenciales adecuadas sigue siendo una ventaja clave. Podemos recordar la exportaci\u00f3n de vol\u00famenes como NFS y SMB para poder gestionar f\u00e1cilmente las ISO. Por el contrario, el acceso a los archivos en un almacenamiento de bloques formateado con VMFS tradicionalmente requer\u00eda pasar directamente por vCenter o el host ESXi.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Escalabilidad<\/strong>: La escalabilidad puede interpretarse de diferentes maneras, pero es importante tener en cuenta tanto las limitaciones duras hist\u00f3ricas como las limitaciones pr\u00e1cticas. Por ejemplo, durante la era de VMFS3, el tama\u00f1o m\u00e1ximo de LUN desplegable era de 2TB, mientras que NFSv3 ten\u00eda un m\u00e1ximo te\u00f3rico de 18 exabytes. Incluso cuando VMFS4 aument\u00f3 significativamente el m\u00e1ximo a 64TB, los usuarios a\u00fan pod\u00edan enfrentarse a problemas de rendimiento debido a la contenci\u00f3n de I\/O y el bloqueo de LUN, especialmente en la era previa a VAAI con limitaciones de disco giratorio. El rendimiento era un tema candente, a menudo mal entendido. Si bien NFS tiene sobrecargas adicionales y exig\u00eda que los anfitriones bloquearan sus propios archivos, NFS podr\u00eda seguir el ritmo de las cargas de trabajo intensivas. Sin embargo, el bloque se consideraba generalmente la opci\u00f3n de \u201cdesempe\u00f1o\u201d. Los cuellos de botella relacionados con la red y otras limitaciones de la infraestructura tambi\u00e9n plantearon retos para el rendimiento de NFS. Si bien exist\u00edan diferencias genuinas, la din\u00e1mica del mercado probablemente amplific\u00f3 estas distinciones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">2. <strong>Se han producido avances importantes en VAAI tanto para NFS como para block.<\/strong> Aqu\u00ed puede ver una <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vmware.com\/docs\/vmw-vmware-vsphere-apis-array-integration-vaai\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lista completa de las capacidades de VAAI<\/a>. El principal obst\u00e1culo ahora es cambiar las percepciones de los clientes de las ideas anticuadas de las diferencias marcadas. La realidad es que la elecci\u00f3n entre NFS y el bloque se ha convertido en gran medida en cuesti\u00f3n de alinearse con unos pocos requisitos operativos o de aplicaciones espec\u00edficos restantes.
